Sandford goes Green
Sandford Park School is a proud member of the world wide Green Schools Project. The aim of this global project is to encourage schools to actively reduce their harmful or negative effects on the environment.
The green schools committee of Sandford Park School is a small committee made up of both teachers and students from all years. The main goal of the green schools committee is to achieve the Five Green Flags. The flags represents Litter Awareness, Energy Conservation, Water Usage, Travelling and Social Impacts. They must be obtained in this order. The flags are not just awards for being a clean school but demonstrate that schools are contributing in a positive way to the saving of the environment and reducing polluting effects. So far Sandford Park has obtained its first green flag. The school is making progress towards obtaining the next green flag which is for energy conservation.
We were presented with our first green flag in Croke Park on May 26th 2010 by An Taisce. Representatives of the committee, Mister Forbes, Miss Brennan (teachers), Jay Deighton and Theo Foley (students) received the flag on behalf of the school.
On the 15th of October 2010, Minister John Gormley head of the green party raised the green flag in Sandford Park School and encouraged our drive towards achieving all of the green flags and saving the environment.
The school is making progress towards obtaining the next green flag which is for energy conservation.
